As Lowe's Store Managers from across the nation gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada, to celebrate 2024's wins and strategize for the year ahead, their spouses and guests were busy with their own work: the annual USO Guest Service Project.
Over 240 volunteers joined the assembly lines to build 10,000 care packages for USO service members. This year's nacks-from-home theme is exceptionally delicious. These American snacks will be a warm reminder of home for men and women stationed on every continent.
Monica Garcia is a first-time Guest Service Project participant. Still, she decided to join because of the potential impact on the USO members who receive these care packages.
I think it will be a lot to them, mainly because they know that people took time to assemble them and not just a facility, making them by machines. It's people's hands making them for these individuals.
For 22 years, Lowe's has partnered with the USO to send care packages to servicemembers. Laura Hersperger, Director of Corporate Alliances with the USO, says the special relationship has had a significant impact, "The feedback we get is this is something that they look for and treasure. Service members who, 20 years ago, got a USO Care pack say that they still remember it and remember when they got it in the mail. It helps them understand and know that we're still thinking of them, care about them, and haven't forgotten them even though they're overseas serving our country."
Lowe’s is a proud supporter of the military community and currently employs over 26,000 active-duty military, veterans and military spouses.
